MEET THE FOUNDER

I’m Lauren Sung

Hey! My name is Lauren and I’m a 15 year old rising sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia. Some fun facts about me are that I play school and club volleyball, enjoy baking and listening to music in my free time, and have a dog named Benji.

Growing up with parents who work in radiology and sports medicine, I’ve always been interested in medicine and healthcare. I enjoy learning about the science behind medical treatments through courses in school and at Brown pre-college, where I studied neurodegenerative diseases and gene therapy. During the summer, I also volunteered at a camp hosted by the nonprofit FOCUS. This camp is specialized for children with disabilities. Throughout this camp, I learned how to help the children with their daily routines and worked with amazing staff at FOCUS. The experience opened my eyes to the incredibly important social services that families rely upon to take care of their children’s health.

From seeing these different aspects of healthcare, browsing books and social media, and talking to healthcare professionals, I’ve realized that so much goes into maintaining one’s health, no matter how young or old you are. Having the right knowledge and resources can lead to better health outcomes and holistic well-being – highlighting and sharing this knowledge is what I hope to achieve through Healthy Horizons for ATL.
